About Time For Some Gratitude -- #ThankfulThursday

Hi there lovely readers!

I have to admit, I've been in a funk lately. Last week my daughter was home sick from school and then I got sick too. We are better now, thanks! However, I can't seem to get back to my regular positive inspired self. We all have undulations (I love that word) in our lives, but this one is giving me a particularly hard time.

I hear myself being grumpy and complaining and I don't even know exactly where it is coming from. There isn't anything in particular wrong, but all of me just seems to be off somehow.

I keep trying to think of how to turn it around. I know there has to be something I can do to change my mood for the better. It's hard to get outside and do too much in the cold, damp Pacific Northwest winter. Ugh, at this point, I'm tired of hearing all of the complaining going on in my head. I may not be at my peak physically after being sick, but my mental state seems even more drained.

I don't even remember where I saw this quote, but here stood my answer:

I was missing gratitude, so I was missing joy. I wanted it back.

All I was doing was complaining. I was sick of being in my own head. As a general rule, I like being in my head, so this was great cause for concern. I need to refocus my thoughts and set a new intention. That starts with gratitude.

I intend to seek gratitude. I yearn to be appreciative of everything I have. I aim to be content with who I am. I am grateful for so many things, if only I can remember to focus on them.

All of this is to say...I have an idea. I want to do a weekly gratitude check in. At this point, I realized there already is such a movement...#ThankfulThursday. I'm ready to hop on board.

This week I am thankful for...

I find yoga healing for my body and my mind. Like I said, I've been in a funk since I was sick last week, but I believe my last yoga class (Hot Power Fusion) just sweated out the worst of it. Yoga helps ground me so I can focus more successfully. I also benefit from the concentration on breathing so I slow down my mind and not get so overwhelmed. Yoga also helps my flexibility and strength, which gives me confidence in myself.

...A Community that Works Together

In our school district, the bus drivers have gone on strike. Though we walk to school, their protest for better healthcare and retirement plan has impacted our community heavily. It is beautiful to see people come together to help each other plan transportation for their students while the district works out this conflict.

On day five of the strike, a solution is being proposed, but only after teachers walked out (after the students finished their pre-planned half day) to stand with the drivers in protest. I love how people come together to demand change and how the community helps each other along the way.

Super Nacho Dip

We cooked a huge amount of food for our Superbowl party last Sunday and there's still leftovers! I haven't had to cook all week because we have pizza and super nacho dip just waiting to be heated up. It is still delicious too.

...Slivers of Sunshine

It isn't very cheery these days in the Pacific Northwest. Mount Rainier has been hiding behind a grey sky for over a month now. However, at the end of last week I caught just a sliver of the sunlight streaking across the Puget Sound. It was beautiful and even if for that instant, it lifted my soul.

...Rhett & Link's Buddy System

The hosts of Good Mythical Morning, with the help of YouTube Red, have created a fantastically funny phenomenon. Rhett and Link are light-hearted and hilarious. My husband and I have watched both seasons over the last couple weeks and I have enjoyed the awkward comedy style and entertaining musical numbers. Laughter really is the best medicine because this show made me feel good.

May it be little things or big things, I am grateful. My goal is to seek out positive inspiration; I believe appreciation is a big part of that task. I am hoping to begin making #ThankfulThursday a weekly periodical.

I would love to hear what you are thankful for this week, comment below!
