Meditation Moments

Life has a way of not making things easy. One day you are on top of the world, but the next, for no good reason, you are struggling to even get out of bed. These are natural undulations, the continuous ups and downs life brings, that I am learning to balance with meditation.

I’ve been trying to add meditation into my daily practice, but honestly, I find it hard to sit in silence and not get restless. After some frustration, I decided to go about the whole practice in a different way by using mantras and affirmations.

A mantra is a word or phrase that aids in concentration for meditation. An affirmation is the action or process of affirming something in this case for emotional encouragement. Both of these words go hand in hand to fulfill my intention of meditation moments.

Instead of figuring out how to add sitting in silence into my schedule, I opt to use the natural lulls in the day to meditate on my mantra or affirmation. So when I’m waiting for the bus, in the grocery line or to pick my daughter up from school, I meditate.

There is so much waiting that we do on a daily basis. I once used the time to go through lists in my head, but that only made me more anxious. I wanted the exact opposite of that, I wanted more peace. By meditating in those quiet, waiting moments of life, I was able to practically eliminate those overwhelming feelings and increased my energy and motivation.

One of my favorite mantras is this:

Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.

It is a simple phrase, but it is helping me understand persistence and allowing more patience with myself.

There are days that my lists are too long or I get focused on one subject matter and don’t get to everything. This hurts my pride, and makes me wonder if I am not good enough. However, I know I am. Just because everything didn’t go perfectly that day doesn’t mean it wasn’t a quality or even productive day in another way.

There is so much that happens that is out of our control, this is a simple reality of life. However, we do the best that we can in every moment. Then we let that go and do the best we can in the next moment. If we fall short, that’s okay we can come back around even stronger than before. We must look on the positive side and appreciate the things that we are doing right.

By affirming that I get better every day and in every way, I can focus on the progress that I am making in my daily routine. These are small things more often than big things: I woke up ready to start the day. I didn’t snap at my daughter this morning. I ate an apple instead of a handful of chips for a snack. I made it to my mat for an unplanned yoga practice. I wrote a little longer today. There are all kinds of small ways to be better in so many ways.

Each day is different and we are always changing and growing. That is the beauty of life and the frustration. Taking these “Meditation Moments” helps me infuse the intention of meditation into my life without having to set aside chunks of time.

Do you meditate? What method works best for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Have an inspired day!

  1. I try to build quiet time into my day to concentrate on Truth. Our brains and our culture feed us so many lies that can only be counteracted by regular doses of what's real and pure and lovely. I've memorized a few Scriptures which help to frame my thoughts, and then I end the day by reviewing it in terms of gratitude and the presence of God in each moment of that day.

  2. That is such a wonderful practice! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Have a great week :)

  3. Meditation is now something I have tried before because I would not know where to start. it is something I would like to try though. Thanks for sharing at Creative Mondays :) Hope you can join us tomorrow.

    1. Honestly, I didn't for the longest time either. I'm sure I still don't do it "right," but I find peace in those little moments of breath, so I figure it works well enough for me.

Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to connecting with you at Creative Mondays :)
